I took a day off on Wednesday. Unplanned. Just needed a day.
I emailed my boss and my team, it was easy.
When I left the house around 10 am on a beautiful August morning in a Jeep with no top or doors, I could not help but think about the movie Ferris Beuller's Day Off. For one, who names a kid Ferris, or Sloane (his sister)? Aside from that it was a pretty good movie. Skipping school, good friends, good family, pissed off authority figures, a few oh shit moments when you wonder how he is gonna get out of this.
Fast forward about 30 years, change the name and place. Larry's day off would not really make a very good movie. In reality it all started with acid reflux and I attempted to sleep sitting up on the couch. Around 3:30 am I was finally able to fall asleep only to be woken up by the dog who decided he needed to pee.
When my lovely wife woke me up at 5:30 for work, I had already decided to call in.
The rest of the day did go a better; payed the property taxes, renewed my drivers license, had lunch with my oldest boy. Not as much adventure as Ferris and his friends, but at my age I am not sure I could handle any more.
